Slovenska kiparska razstava 2010, KNJIŽNI SPOMENIKI
Utemeljitev teme letošnje razstave izpod peresa prof. dr. Milčka Komelja:
'V letu 2010, ko bo Ljubljana svetovna prestolnica knjige, se bo navezovala na pojem knjige tudi 14. slovenska kiparska razstava, ki jo po tradiciji v Mestni hiši vsako leto prireja Zavod za kiparstvo. Izbrana tematika je zamišljena kot spodbuda za ustvarjalno invencijo, ne kot omejitev. Nanaša se na več raznovrstnih vidikov oziroma impulzov, ki segajo od same fiziognomije knjige kot žlahtnega objekta do njene povezanosti z vsakršnimi sporočili, predvsem pa z lepo književnostjo, njenimi junaki in avtorji, torej tudi, metaforično rečeno, s poezijo. Knjiga je povezana z likovno umetnostjo sicer predvsem v slikarstvu, z miniaturami in ilustracijami, vendar so bile platnice knjig nekoč okrašene tudi z reliefi, številni pa so tudi spomeniki književnikov (od katerih jih vrsta drži v rokah knjigo, tako kot v Ljubljani Trubar in Prešeren), pa tudi njihovih junakov (kakršen je npr. Martin Krpan). Pojmovanje knjige kot spodbude za sodobno kiparstvo pa naj bi bilo zelo široko, ne le kot nadaljevanje ustaljenih oblik, in naj bi segalo v svet duha, v katerem nastaja književnost. Kiparska materializacija teh razsežnosti omogoča oblikovno-izrazni in konceptualni razpon, ki je glede na predpostavljano inventivnost umetnikov nepredvidljiv, in naj bi spodbudila tudi izpovedovanje osebnega odnosa do vsega, kar nam pomeni knjiga kot izhodišče zapisane besede: kot sinonim za kulturo in umetnost, za jezik in zakladnico vsega tistega, kar naj bi z deli za razstavo skušali na izviren in oseben način izreči tudi slovenski kiparji.'

RECENSIONI CONCORSO SCULTURA - "LA FUGA"
I. premio:
“…DALL’AMORE!”
Opera scultorea volutamente non lucidata, formata da un elemento in marmo bianco di Carrara che, inizialmente chiuso su se... stesso, all’improvviso si apre, con un inarcamento della figura che termina con una punta, il cui apice è rosso. L’elemento rosso allude al sangue, che bagna il santo bianco del marmo, che poggia su una base nera, dando un contrasto cromatico di forte eleganza e profonda significanza simbolica: un’iconografia alchemica che rappresenta una liberazione; il rosso del sangue simboleggia la materializzazione dello spirito e, al contempo, la spiritualizzazione della materia. E’ una fuga dall’amore, che ferisce nel profondo del proprio essere; è l’amore finito che fa sanguinare, e dal quale si fugge, e che col dolore conferma la propria forza e indispensabilità per la natura umana. E’…«l’amor che muove il sole e l’altre stelle».

Damjan Komel's sculpture has a precise guiding thread. For him in fact art is born from man's need to approach and itegrate with nature, to show his feelings, not just survival. Man is seen as a warrior fighting for five fundamental elements: food, house, love, family and his position in society.
Today, acording to Damjan, there are not arms, but words to protect these objectives. »We two warriors« is a summary of this concept. It is an abstraction of the confrontation between man and nature, material and spirit, actual and ideal inited at the vital centre, eternal becoming. And we are the warriors, with sumptuous clothes, like priests fashioned, created and formed to use the head and the word as arms of defence.
